Know Hunting - Truths, Lies & Myths
by Dr. David E. Samuel
When someone asks why you hunt, do you immediately think you have to defend your actions? What is your comeback? Dr. Samuel can help you here. Non-hunters are not necessarily anti-hunters. Know the difference and foster good relations with non-hunters. You are not likely to change the attitude of anti-hunters but you sure don’t want to turn non-hunters into anti-hunters. Dr Samuel can help you here. There is frequent in-fighting amongst us (as hunters). One of many examples: The bear hunting community is brutalized by fellow hunters for using bait and/or dogs. The anti-hunting movement has seized on this and successfully shut down bear seasons and/or the use of bait/dogs in many States and Provinces. We all have our own moral code (we hope); but more and more lately, ethics and morals are downsized into laws and regulations. If a particular hunting method is legal but you don’t like it, don’t do it… that is your choice. But why would you begrudge, intimidate or otherwise belittle another hunter for hunting in a perfectly legal manner? Hunters attacking other hunters does not help us, it helps the anti-hunting faction with there ultimate goal of eliminating hunting. We hunt from stands, blinds, use bait, use decoys, use dogs, use guns, use rifles, use scopes, use range-finders, binoculars, camouflage, use bows and other primitive devices but we are all hunters. If you do not particularly agree with using any of these options that is your choice. Some would think using devices such as these provides an unequal advantage. Who says there has to be a level playing field? Hunting is all about advantage. That is why smaller animals are generally preyed upon by the larger ones (or more cunning ones). Enough of my ramblings…this is a worthwhile read. Read it and “Know Hunting”. | ||
