Cobra Sidewinder LX Bowsight - Product Review

SIDEWINDER LX - BOW SIGHT

Cobra has been manufacturing fine archery products since 1974, and most, if not all archers recognize the Cobra name.

The Cobra SIDEWINDER LX sight is a quality machined, high-end bow sight.  It uses the same fibre optic technology that has been around for a few years.  However, Cobra was among the first to use fibre optic technology to its fullest advantage by utilizing over 2 feet of fibre for each pin!  The surplus fibre is neatly wrapped and contained in a clear covered cylindrical housing.  This allows maximum light gathering potential and results in the brightest, cleanest sight picture possible.

This sight includes an "Enhancer Cover" and Cyalume Glo-Sticks™ that may be used in extreme low-light conditions.  The Cyalume Glo-Sticks™ are contained inside the "Enhancer Cover" which is snapped in place around the wrapped fibre optic housing.  This option may be of value to you if you intend to shoot well after sundown.  It is my experience however, even more than an hour after sunset, remaining residual light is still sufficient to illuminate your pins without the aid of the Cyalume Glo-Sticks™.

The fibre colors on this sight are green, yellow and red.  The green pins by far, are the brightest in low light conditions, followed by yellow and finally red.  Five pins are installed (from top to bottom) green/red/yellow/red/green.  This is a logical order considering that most hunters commence hunting at dawn and end at dusk.

The all metal machined pins are loaded into dual angled tracks; this feature allows zero gap pin spacing.  On your fastest bow, you can space your short distance pins as close together as you need them, without interference from each other.  If you like the  option of an extended sight bar, the Cobra SIDEWINDER LX comes with a dovetail slide bar sight extension, which allows a three inch fore/aft range of movement.  Round holes are milled in the top of the extension bar so that when you tighten the bar down, the nylon tip on the end of the knob will fit into the hole and give you the extra security of knowing that the bar will not move.  Many sights equipped with slide bar dovetail extensions interfere with the installation of a bow mounted quiver.  This sight, however, is supplied with spacers that allow you to install your favourite quiver, without interference.

Making horizontal and vertical adjustments to bow sights can be frustrating.  Where only a slight adjustment is required, invariably you somehow manage to input a large one, especially if there are no reference marks to guide you.  You'll definitely appreciate the Micro Windage and Elevation knobs on the SIDEWINDER LX, these features allow you to dial in minute changes in horizontal and vertical planes, and with the aid of reference marks, you know where you started from and where you went.

Make no mistake, these pins are BRIGHT.  Unfortunately, pictures cannot capture the true illumination that these fibre optic pins provide.  Visit your Cobra dealer and ask to view one of these sights outside, in daylight conditions.  You will be favourably impressed.

All Cobra products are warranted to be free from defects in both workmanship and materials.  All metal components manufactured by Cobra are covered by their "No Hassle Lifetime Warranty".  The warranty does not extend to fibre optic material.
